Black Plastic - now Environmentally Friendly!

Until now, black plastic has been a problem at recycling plants. The sensors could not detect the black plastic packaging due to the dye, which meant that it was sorted out as residual waste and incinerated.

We have the solution for the recycling problem.

Since the bottles of our premium brand for professionals are made of black plastic, a new solution was needed! To this end, David Wagner, head of our purchasing department, went into research - and dialog - with the packaging industry. The fact that the implementation of the bottle is also possible in a sustainable way was the pleasing result.
The new bottle is given a special dye that can be detected by the recycling plant's sensors. But the particular success for David lies in the fact that the plastic is also suitable for food. In fact, the recyclable black plastic already existed in other areas - but until now it was not food grade. The new bottle is now 100% recyclable and will be returned to the recycling loop via appropriate disposal. This saves at least 28% of the bottle's original CO2 emissions.* We are even more pleased that our Optimahl Starline sauces are available in the recyclable bottle and that we have thus reached another milestone.

*Investigation based on DEFRA database; Recyclability enables CO2 savings by substituting virgin plastic in the subsequent life cycle when disposed of properly. More information at: nachhaltigkeit(at)bigfood-group.com
